When great images get outdated

From One Human Minute:

“Every night, electrons, forced to lick the screens of our television sets with frenzied speed, show us the world chopped up and crammed into the Latest News” – Stanislaw Lem, One Human Minute

There’s a lot of cultural momentum with the image of TV as a rounded rectangle, some 50 years worth.

I wonder what will pass first, the icon of TV as the tube, or the separation between media presented as “TV” and media presented as “internet”

This wasn’t part of the Playmobil sets I had…

From Reason.com, it’s the Playmobil security checkpoint!

The Amazon customer reviews give an indication of the important lessons your kids will learn with this kit. Personally, I much prefer the lessons learned when playing with the Rally Car, but it’s discontinued.

24, again

Kevin Drum addresses some of the same points I did.

Also, didn’t the first few seasons build up more slowly? This one seems foot-to-the-floor from the first 15 minutes. To be kind to anyone who hasn’t watched, I’ll hold off on examples.

24 – not so much of a new day

I had been wondering if 24 would be less predictable this year. I was also wondering if the recent changes in the political climate would reduce the torture-porn level to, maybe an R rating? 45 minutes into the first episode, and I’m not so hopeful on either point.

Radial bar chart

For work, I’ve got a data set that might be applicable – there’s ~100 data points, which are grouped into 3 major sets. At the moment, we show the 3 sets on separate bar charts, but this technique might let us show them all on one page. The radial nature of the layout gives more room at the circumference to show labels for the various bars.

I thought ETA was in Brighton…

Other people got Infinite Jest for Christmas, apparently. I really thought it was supposed to be here, next to Comm Ave.
